On the road

We've been on a road now for 4 days and everything has went mostly fine. Of course the first thing we heard when we landed to Fort Lauderdale was that there's a hurricane Erika coming toward's Florida, so we needed to make some changes to our travel plan in Miami. We were supposed to drive to Key west on the second day of our stay in Miami, but we thought that it would be saver to do it on the first day so we would get out of there before the possible hurricane would hit. Well luckily it had calmed down anyway, so it never came as a hurricane to Florida. So we ended up having a great day in Florida keys.

It is though kind of fun to notice how pictures can give so different expression of things. Like we assumed by looking at the pictures that almost the whole way would be next to a water on a bridge, but most of it was on those islands in between, where you couldn't even see the sea. So in there I admit making the mistake of having again too clear expectations and there for disappointing a bit. We have a saying in finnish that would translate: beauty is on a seers eyes, which means that how beautiful places you see, depends on how you look at things. And those expectations usually blind us from seeing everything as they actually are and being able to see beauty on almost everything.  But that disappointed feeling goes away very fast when you realize where it comes from and you're able to enjoy the moment and see it's beauty.

Also the ocean drive in Miami was totally different than I imagined, but in the end it was actually very cool; it was so 70's that it made me feel like traveling back in time. All those old buildings were so colourful and even though I don't like that kind of "party" streets that much, the whole 70's atmosphere made it actually pretty cool.

The next stop from Miami was to Orlando, but that was just a one night stop and we continued early on next morning to Tallahassee. On our way to Orlando though we visited the everglades, which is the biggest swap areas in Florida. So we went and took a tour in there and tryed to find some alligators. We did manage to see couple of those (mostly hidden in the water) and we got to see a climbs of how huge the area is from a shark valley tower in there.

From Orlando then we headed to Tallahassee, but with some detours of course. So the first stop was at Ichetucknee springs, which was very beautiful! There were small springs in there and some underwater caves, so you could actually swim above them! First I was so scared of swimming there, which got me thinking that when I was younger I was never scared of anything and now I'm starting to be more and more doubtful about everything. I guess you do need to be aware of things that might happen, but in the end anything can happen anywhere so I decided I need to be a bit more daring on some things.

But the place was definitely so beautiful and it was so calm at least this part of the year when it was a bit off season.

We also went to another spring, which was madison blue spring state park and I think that was even more amazing! Well first of all, there was only one family in there and the scenery was just perfect. Water was so bright and cool and all of those green trees next to it gave just amazing refection on the water.

From there then we head to Tallahassee and got stay with this lovely lady through couchsurfing. It was a first time I stayed through couchsurfing and it was execellent. I love the fact that there's so many open people who are filling to let strangers stay with them and I would love to host myself as well when I'll have apartment somewhere where I could do it.

We've had some fun incidents with our car as well, which has given so many laughs during our time. For first we actually thought that our car had only 2 doors, so we stuffed our luggage through the front door for a couple of days until we actually realized that there is in fact a handle for the back door as well. But at least we found that on a start of our trip! We've noticed that these cars here are way too new and fancy for us and we learned that when we got a change to talk on a emergency line through our radio.. We accidentally pressed the button in our car which said sos, so the car connected us to some emergency line. But the lady on the line was very understanding!

So excited to see where our trip leads us from here.. To be continued!
